It’s been awhile since I have had the time to update. This month,(November) has been really busy. I was involved in the Charanga ‘76 reunion at Lehman College in the Bronx, NY and it was great. I saw people I haven’t seen for years including Hansel, Philip Martinez, Hector Nieves, John Calloway, and loads more. We all got an opportunity to hang out and reminisce as well as find out what’s been going on with everyone’s lives. The concert was good but I think the sound was a little off. That’s what happens sometimes. Then I ended up producing a concert at the Hostos Center for Arts and Culture also located in the Bronx. This was a great concert but it took an enormous amount of work. It featured Karen Joseph, Connie Grossman, Dave Valentin, and myself, backed up by my Latin Jazz group, Phoenix Rising. Each flautist got time to play their portion of the show then the four flutes played together. Although I didn’t see it, I heard we got a standing ovation!! We have a lot of plans for this group so hopefully you will be hearing about us in your area soon. I am also involved in a great project involving African, Haitian, and Cuban musicians. For the moment things seem to moving slowly but I’m sure it’s just the calm before the storm. I’d like to wish everyone a peaceful and healthy holiday and hoping great things come your way in the new year.
Take care. -Andrea
