Back With Sweet Passion in the press

Brachfeld has captured the true essence of what Afro-Cuban music is all about… Son Charanga has the golden touch that only flutist Andrea Brachfeld can give it. Don’t bother to find a place to store it. Son Charanga is guaranteed to stay in your CD player. Call the firefighters. This one is a three alarmer.

– Maria Von Dickersohn, Sirius Satellite Radio

…it’s a very balanced and tasty combination of Latin Jazz with the Charanga feel. Keep up the good work!

Paquito D’Rivera

When I came down the stairs to the Maganette that hot July night and heard Andrea Brachfeld’s band, “Son Charanga”, I was amazed at the virtuosity of the playing and the swing of the orchestra as a whole…Highly recommended to anyone who loves Afro-Caribbean music.

Andy Kaufman, Birdland, NYC

A great mixture of Latin Jazz and Afro-Cuban Charanga sounds, this album transcends all previous attempts to fuse the two genres. Andrea Brachfeld shows why she is considered one of the premier Jazz flutists in the world. Her new band Son Charanga will be one of the most sought-after bands throughout the world.

Sonia Goldstein, jazzreview.com

Son Charanga is easy, smooth and totally melodic. Great for showing off on the dance floor. Andrea Brachfeld has captured the true essence of what Afro-Cuban music is all about. Her flute glides effortlessly through the ten tracks… Son Charanga has the golden touch that only flutist Andrea Brachfeld can give it. Don’t bother to find a place to store it. Son Charanga is guaranteed to stay in your CD player. Call the firefighters. This one is a three alarmer.

Maria Von Dickersohn, Sirius Satellite Radio

Elegant, modern , and rhythmically vibrant, the music of Andrea Brachfeld and her group swings with so much sabor. You will soon agree that Andrea Brachfeld and her Son Charanga are among the best in Latin music today.

Erik Chico Manqueros, The Latin Style of Jazz

Highly recommended…This dynamic new Charanga release by Ms. Brachfeld (Charanga ‘76, Orquesta Broadway, Africando, etc.) is a fiery dance record with more in-the-pocket grooves than one CD can usually handle. The explosive opening track “Descarga Son Charanga” is reason enough to have this crisp, sparkling project in your collection. Son Charanga includes one of the most swinging versions of “Pare Cochero” I’ve heard. The CD features the legendary Alfredo De La Fé on violin. Listen to what he does with the classic “Almendra.” Also featured is the esteemed pianist and composer / arranger Oscar Hernandez, whose own Spanish Harlem Orchestra was recently nominated for a Grammy. This is a welcome entry. It’s not that often that such a well done, passionate project comes along.

La Flauta de Andrea”, features a chorus that says, “La flauta de Andrea, qué rico y sabrosa,” which serves as a great description for the musical recipe flutist Andrea Brachfeld cooks up on her latest album, “Back With Sweet Pas- sion”…Salsa dura swing and impressive musicianship, cohesion, rich talent, and magnetism…It’s Andrea in the kitchen and at the top of her game, adding her personal spices to the mix with faultless technique and melodious creativity.

Jesse Varela, writer, Latin Beat Magazine

…I got the CD and it is slamming! Radio is loving “La Flauta de Andrea.” The passion in this remarkable CD is felt from the first opening note to the last beat. Andrea’s energy proves that Charanga with a jazzy flair is the sound of the new year…

Nelson Rodriguez, Latin Beat

…I really adore your album. I have been listening to it incessantly. A CD with so many strong tracks is rare indeed.

John Child, descarga.com

I think it’s very powerful. I like the idea of using standard tunes. I think the instrumentals were very, very good.

Ruby Bailey, Host WBAI with Chico Alvarez

My main complaint about Andrea Brachfeld’s “Back With Sweet Passion” CD is that it didn’t come with an oven mitt. This record cooks from start to finish. Some artists load their albums with big names… to cover up for a lack of action in their own corner. Not so on “Back With Sweet Passion”. Flute player and band leader Brachfeld puts the spring in the step of this band, and her expert leadership results in a strong album with it’s own identity that doesn’t suffer from all-star-itis. If you’re looking for something fresh, if you’re looking to dance, if you’re looking for playing that holds up under repeated listening—look at Andrea Brachfeld and Son Charanga. Highly recommended.

Jason Crane, Host of “Traffic Jam” 90.1 WGMC Rochester, NY

I have been a fan of Andrea’s since Charanga ‘76. Miss Brachfeld’s project “Son Charanga” is a masterful update of Latin America’s most beautiful music.

Franco Silva, Latin Beat Magazine/ Hit Parade

There is an explosive unstoppable exuberance literally in each one of the musical themes found on the new Andrea Brachfeld CD, “Back With Sweet Passion”. While Andrea shows us her (Latin) flavor, abilities, and mature music, her vigorous notes and brilliant improvisations exude the happiness which can only be associated with a musical heaven.

Norberto Rivera, WIPR Radio 940 AM, Puerto Rico

Andrea’s new CD exemplifies the soul of Afro-Cuban music while remaining true to Andrea’s unique blend of tonal quality and swinging style. Son Charanga is versatile and also nostalgic of a happier time in the explosion of the Cha- ranga movement of the late 50s and early 60s with songs by José Fajardo.

Anthony Hattenback, Executive Producer, ESP ENTERTAINMENT

I thoroughly enjoyed the magnificent tribute that unfolded as I listened to “Rumba Cha” (Son Charanga) by Andrea Brachfeld. The collaborative efforts by these master musicians resonated so beautifully in conjunction with Andrea’s flute…

Hector Resendez, DJ

After paying my taxes, I needed an uplift. It came by the way of Latin Cool and Andrea Brachfeld. Andrea, you’ve outdone yourself…Latin Cool is on it’s way to become the hottest Latin Jazz label in the universe.

Leon Reyes, the Rhythm Lion, Host of the Salsa and Latin Jazz Show, KVMR 89.5 FM

The party was great, the band was totally groovin’, the people of Latin Cool Records were super cool and supportive and the best is that Andrea looked great and sounded great!

Annette A Aguilar, Annette A Aguilar & Stringbeans

Your arrangements came through as naturally as your playing, and I think that is why the release is so appealing to me.

George Rivera, “Jazz Con Clave

…que agredable sorpresa, que elegante, sabroso, y cadencioso los arreglos…adicionalmente los músicos que intervienes son de primera linea…y por su puesto, Andrea Brachfeld, que calidad, que mujer…

…what an agreeable surprise, how elegant, full of flavor, and well put together arrangements…additionally the musicians who play are the top in their field…and of course, Andrea Brachfeld, what quality, what a woman…

Orlando López, El Magazine de la Salsa, Maracaibo, Venezuela

I very much enjoyed the CD. It has a strong organic sound to it reflective of your years of study and direct participation in the Afro- Cuban and Latino Jazz tradition. Your interpretation of the classics… are true to the origins but you still manage to put your musical stamp on each one.
